We saw this statue at the MFA sitting in the middle of the floor, surrounded by Impressionist pieces. Its a Degas piece. Degas did these extraordinary pieces featuring ballerinas. As a dancer and art lover, I guess I’d say I have an unequivocal connection with his pieces. This ballerina exudes fascinating emotion through its stillness, in this nonchalant first position. Above all else she is a dancer, her body is an ever changing tool. What she creates is just as difficultor easy, just as worthy of praise and intrepretation as any painter or sculptor. What is creates is natural to her, it must be done. I wish that I were she, that my posture conveyed to those that see me what I am. I have two Degas ballerina pieces in my room, one very large ballerina painting and one smaller one mounted on my wall. They continuously inspire me.
